Diabetes screening - January Report
January Report
Dear Facebook subscribers, this is your Tsotso the Diabetes Educator who manages and runs the Diabetes Centre at Diabetes Care West Africa Togo. I hope you all had a good year. I pray that 2022 brings with it many good things. Yes, the year has just begun, but I can't keep my patients and those who need my attention away from me. My work is daily and today I want to update you, my dear subscribers, on what kept me busy in January. During this month I had the important task of screening, organising and educating people about diabetes.
As usual, each month I choose an educational theme for the patients who come to the association to have their blood sugar levels checked. Every working day, and sometimes outside working hours, I receive diabetic patients who come to check their blood sugar levels or for other needs. The theme I've chosen for January is ‘the health benefits of physical activity for diabetics’. I encourage them to take part in active sporting activities and see the resulting effect on their glucose levels, because when we move, our muscles consume glucose, which lowers blood sugar levels. I advise diabetics to do at least three sessions of physical activity a week. Dear followers, forgive me for educating them and advising them theoretically on matters of activity. As soon as I have a room, it won't just be talk, it will be practice and action.
One of DCWA's main and defined objectives is public screening for diabetes and on 04 January 2022, I conducted free diabetes awareness and screening for students, teachers and retail traders in and around a school in a town called Agoe, near Lomé. (see some photos...)
Please comment and I need your advice and support of any kind will certainly be appreciated.
Come back soon for my next report. ciao
